WHEN THE WINE IS FINISHED PART 1
THE EXCELLING WORD FOR TODAY
When The Wine Is Finished Part 1
John 2:3-10
His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it._vs 5
In my little life of experience I
have come to understand that the greatest form of self embarrassment is that
type of embarrassment that emanates despite your preparation. When you
embarrass yourself in a matter that you were not even prepared for, sometimes
you allow the embarrassment to just go with the excuse of; 'if only I was
prepared I would have performed better'. But what if you were really prepared
and still you embarrassed yourself so badly, what will be your excuse?
That was the case of this story in
our text. Before a man will have to invite people to his wedding ceremony, he
might have prepared to a reasonable extent. Just like the celebrants in the
book of John 2, he even invited some prominent men in the community and placed
them on the high table. But to his own embarrassment and to the embarrassment
of the prominent men around, the wine prepared for the celebration finished
when the celebration was still on. What an embarrassment.
Brethren by the help of the Spirit I
saw some powerful truths for this season which I will like to share with you
about wine. Wine brings comfort, satisfaction, refreshment, relaxation, rest
and aids digestion. When you take wine, you will experience any of the above
listed functions. Also wine signifies respect, wealth (riches & finance),
honour and value. When you want to honour a man, you go with a wine or the
brand of drink he takes. And if some one offers it to you, you give such one
your attention, because some how he deserves it.
Presently I have discovered that the
'wine' in our nation Nigeria is finished, and many homes and houses presently
are experiencing finished wine. The wine in many businesses is fast drying up,
many people in the world today, their wine is finished. And the worse is that,
the people are looking at the wrong
persons for help. Just like the wedding in the Cana of Galilee, some were
looking at the chairman, the members of the high table and the groom to
intervene in the matter at hand. But all those people were all there when the
wine got finished, if they were able to do anything, they would have done it
when the wine went down, not waiting until it was completely finished. So also
in our time many are looking at the president of their country, the governor of
their state, the chairman of their local government area, the political
appointees and elects, the boss in their offices, their parents, their sponsors,
their clubs, their churches or denominations etc, to intervene, but we fail to
understand that they can't help because their own wine is either finished or
almost finished. So men and brethren enough of all these pretense. The wine in
our nation is really exhausted. When you read the news papers and listen to the
news of this season, you will obtain enough facts to this truth.
Since it has come to this point, how
do we then survive? What do we do? Is there anything left to be done to abort
this embarrassment, to survive this coming famine and death? I have a good
news, the good news is that there is still something to be done.
Let's take a look at that event that
happened in Cana again. The groom invited different people from all sorts of
life, and also invited Jesus and his disciples. That scripture tells us that
Mary the mother of Jesus was already there when Jesus arrived with his
disciples but they were not recognised by any one except Mary. So Jesus has to
occupy a common place with other attendance, while the prominent men were on
the high table.
My dear reader when the man with the
solution of the peoples problem is sitting with the floor members and the
prominent men with no solution are sitting up on the high table, sitting in the
office of decision making. The wine will always go down and eventually
finished. So my dear readers if we must survive this time we need to take Jesus
to the high table not just to be a member but to be the chairman, both in our
nation, in our homes and businesses.
Watch out for the part 2 of this
series.
Shalom!
