Ability To Prove The Good, The Acceptable and The Perfect Pt 6 _ The Progressive Mind

Romans  12:2

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].__Amplified

You are welcome to a fresh new day, which you shall Excel in Excellence.

Previously we were able to see some tips that will aid anyone to make a choice of the good, the acceptable and the perfect will of God. These were the following tips previously seen:

1. You Must Understand How The Mind Functions.

2. You Must Understand The Mind To Body Effect.

3. You Must Understand The Minds Conformity (that is, you must understand how the mind is being conformed).

In today's devotion we shall continue.

4. You Must Prevent The Mind Viruses

Virus may look minute and abstract or inconsistent, but can cause a serious abnormality in any personality regardless of dignity.

Prior to this post, we saw how the mind gets conformed to the fallacious standards of this present age. It is very important to know that there are viruses that aid the negative conformity of the mind and make the renewing of the mind very difficult. One major effect of viruses over the mind is that it makes the mind so sick, just like the way the virus in human body behaves.

The following, listed below are the viruses, beware of them.

1. Wrong Suggestions

The first point of influence in the body is the mind, and it comes in form of suggestions. Suggestion is one of the greatest and most powerful weapons the enemy uses to destabilize a man. Every idea that comes into a man's mind came first as suggestions. From the level of suggestion, it gets mature to the point of becoming a thought, from which it transcends to the point of becoming actions which in turn can become an attitude or habit unless it is altered by a deliberate and conscious action or decision. Every great man or woman that has ever invented or failed in life actually had a suggestion that led to the decision that brought about the end or the glory.

In Genesis 3:1-7, the first time man failed in the Garden of Eden, was as a result of a suggestion that first caused the action of the disobedience, which came from the enemy in the body of a serpent. For you to be able to have a progressive mind, you must be aware of wrong suggestions and their forms. Suggestions generally can come in various forms:

i. Questions

ii. Answers

iii. Advice

iv. Insinuation

v. Insults

vi. Instructions (Orders)

vii. Whispers

viii. Murmuring or Complaints

ix. Mental suggestions (thoughts into the mind internally)

x. Overheard Voices, &

xi. Organised Speech.

2. Wrong Thinking

It is almost a household quote today that as a man thinks in his heart so is he and it is very correct. If you can manage your thinking, you can manage your world. There is always a hundred percent possibility to becoming your dominant thought. In other wards, your dominant thought programs your existence. Once an idea is sown into the mind as a suggestion, and it is never aborted but rather allowed to be pondered over, then, you are giving room for wrong thinking.

Wrong suggestions produce wrong thinking; wrong thinking produces wrong words; wrong words produce wrong actions; wrong actions produce wrong habits; wrong habits produce wrong character; wrong character leads to wrong destinies.

Finally as regards wrong thinking, always ask yourself what does the word of God say about what I am thinking. Because what you think is right, may be wrong to some one else and vice versa. So the standard of God is the standard for measurement.

3. Harbouring Unforgiveness

John Ashbery in Houseboat Days once said and I quote “The mind is so volatile, taking in everything like boarders, and you don't see until it is all over....", Unquote. The mind keeps taking and taking and without even knowing where to stop. Most times before it comes to the consciousness that things are coming in, the harm has already being done.

So it is with unforgiveness. It starts like provocation, if you do not see it coming, you will think you are just being irritated but oblivious that it is the spirit of hatred that is looking for a way to come in. It is the spirit of hatred that breeds unforgiveness. Once you start developing irritation, then hatred will creep in, and if finally hatred creeps in, then the spirit of unforgiveness will have a base in the mind. Unforgiveness opens the door for oppression and it starts from the mind. It makes the mind very sick and unhealthy for development.

In Matthew 6:12 Jesus taught us how to pray and he said, “and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven (left remitted and let go of the debts, and have given up resentment against) our debtors" [Amplified version]. If you take a good look at the scripture, you will observe that for God to forgive you, you must first forgive them who sinned against you. Deal with the viruses in your heart today if you must have a progressive mind.
