THAT BREAD IS NOT ENOUGH Part 1
That Bread Is Not Enough Part 1
Matthew 4:4
But he
answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by
every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
My beloved readers, when I
took out time to study this particular verse of the scripture, it really gave
me a sense of reasoning and answers to so many questions in my heart. Jesus our
master was being tempted to turn a stone into a bread, after he had fasted and
was terribly hungry. Which he would have done without any stress. But I was so
shocked about his answer to the devil; “Man shall not live by bread
alone". What a reply! This reply made me to ponder over what bread
really meant, by the help of the insight of the Spirit, I came to understand
that the word bread in the above scripture is beyond food.
Bread
means: satisfaction, money, comfort, gain or food. Anything you do in
life that gives you money, gives you food, help you make gains (properties,
positions & material things), gives you physical comfort and satisfies just
your flesh and soul (will, emotion and mind), are all classified as bread. If
you take a good look at that scripture, you will observe that Jesus did not
condemn the bread idea, he did not say man should not live by bread, rather he
said man should not live by bread alone, which means that the kind of
life man (humans) was programmed to live is beyond bread. As you can see
bread is good but you can't live by it alone. It does not have the
sustainability to keep you. But come to our today's life, the condition around
us keep telling us that without bread we won't survive it. That is the reason
many people all over are searching for lucrative businesses to do. Some are in
education just to have satisfaction in life, some are involving themselves in
fraudulent businesses, some are doing menial jobs and hard labours, why some
extra few who think they are good for nothing are on the streets begging. All
of these boils down to the fact that we all need bread.
I have also come
to understand that there are legitimate ways of acquiring bread and also
illegitimate ways. But the fact also remains that Jesus wants you to have bread
but he does not want you to live by it; which means he does not want you
to be overshadowed, ruled, dependent or controlled by bread or by the
source of your bread. With the given point above, that means making bread the
illegitimate way is not an option. Because it means you obeying the devil to
make bread for your satisfaction. Which is very bad. Making bread is good but
not when the devil is the one bringing the idea, then you need to disobey him
and endure the hunger and wait for a legitimate bread. And when the legitimate
bread comes don't be carried away by it, don't let it consume the whole of your
God given time. Don't pursue it as if your whole life is in it. Always bear in
mind that no matter how ‘much’ the bread is; THE BREAD IS NOT ENOUGH.
My
beloved, I believe you have been blessed reading this. See you for the part two
of this Excelling Word.
Shalom!
